Obituary of Mary J. Fillette

Batavia - Mrs. Mary J. Fillette, age 95, of Batavia, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Johnson’s Elderly Care in Byron.

Mrs. Fillette was born March 31, 1922 in Elba, a daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy Morris Watson.

A member of Elba Presbyterian Church, she loved to tell jokes and while living in Virginia, was one of the first females to help coach youth baseball. She loved her job as a housemother at the New York State School for the Blind, where she worked for many years. Her children recall how much she enjoyed cooking and cleaning her home.

She is predeceased by her husbands, Solomon Zeagler in 1985 and Tony S. Fillette in 1996.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Rosone of Lima, Donald (Jasmin) Zeagler of Suffolk, Virginia and John Zeagler of Florida; her daughter-in-law, Bridget Zeagler of Batavia; her sister, Erma (Paul) Joslin of Des Moines, Iowa and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her sons, David Zeagler, who passed away in 1959 and Robert Zeagler, who passed away in 2016 and her brothers, Earl and Leon Watson.

There are no prior visiting hours. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 27th at Maple Lawn Cemetery, 12 Maple Avenue, Elba.  Memorials may be made to New York State School for the Blind, 2A Richmond Avenue, Batavia, New York 14020.
